The second step in creating a quiz is to add the questions.
The Administration block, when inside a quiz, allows access to edit quiz settings or edit/add quiz questions. Clicking “Edit Settings” will take you to the quiz shell editing screen. If you click “Edit Quiz,” this will bring you to the area to add quiz questions.
There are a large number of settings on this screen. The image below shows the the area where questions are added to the quiz. This is where your question bank questions are located. Click “Add” and choose the type of question to add to the quiz.
The “Add” menu displays three options:
- a new question – create a new question and add it to the quiz
- from question bank – add a question from an imported bank
- a random question – add random questions to a quiz from a test bank.
“from question bank” and “a random question” are the most common choices. The image below shows the options available when “from a question bank” is selected. To add questions from a bank, change the category to the correct imported bank, then select the questions from the bank by checking the box beside each question. You can select all questions by clicking the box beside the red “T” at the top of the question list.
If “a random question” was selected, the image below shows the options available for random questions. Simply choose the question category to pull random questions, then select the number of questions.
After all questions have been added to the quiz, then each question can be edited individually. Figure 6 shows the settings available for each question. Each label in Figure 6 is explained below:
A
The gear icon to the left of each added question allows the instructor to edit the individual question. This includes answers and the question text.
B
Shows the type of questions. This includes, but is not limited to types: True/False, Essay, and Multiple Choice located beside the question text.
C
Is a magnifying glass icon beside the question text that allows the instructor to preview this question alone. It places this one question in a quiz by itself so the instructor can see if the question is valid or not.
D
The X icon on the far right removes the question from the test.
E
Allows the weight value of the question to be changed. The higher the number, the higher the weight of the question. If all questions have the same number, they are all equally weighted. The Save button must be pressed for each change. 1 is the most common value.
