Chat

Chat rooms in Moodle provide a simple method to interact with students at set times in the same place. Chat rooms only offer text interactions. To set up a chat room in Moodle for your students, follow the guide below:

Begin by toggling the Edit Mode button in the course, then go to the topic where you want the chat room to display. Add an activity by clicking “Add an activity or resource” at the bottom of the module. The activity you need to choose is chat.

An arrow points to the chat activity icon wich is a blue and orange chat bubble

Once chat is chosen, the edit settings page for the chat room will display. Give the chat room a name and description.

Next, scroll down to the chat session settings. Set the date and time for the chat meeting. Then set if you want the session to repeat or not. The recommended settings for this is “No repeats – publish the specified settings”. Scroll to the bottom and save.
