We always recommend adding quiz questions into your test bank, NOT within the quiz itself. Reason being, your quiz questions will only live on within that quiz. If you include it in your test bank, you’ll always have the option to use that question in more places than one. See the steps below on how to do so:
Creating Questions via Test Bank Steps
- Navigate to your course homepage
- Click the More tab and select “Question Bank”.
- Select the “Categories” tab. This will show you all the question categories linked to your course.
- You can always create new categories to better group your questions by scrolling to the bottom of that page. I highly suggest always making sure the Parent category is the course that you’re working within.
- If you have an existing category that you’d like to continue adding questions to, select that category now.
- Select “Create new question”. From here you can select whatever question type you desire. There’s a brief description as well that will help you.
NOTE: We do NOT suggest using “Short Answer” questions because you’d have to include every variation that the answer could be. Without doing so, it will count the student’s answer as wrong assuming it doesn’t match what you originally inputted into Moodle. We suggest creating short answer questions as another question type, such as essay, multiple choice, true/false, etc. It all depends on your preference! - After selecting your question type, you would input the question content in the appropriate textbox with the corresponding answer(s).
- Hit “Save changes”. You would continue this process for all questions you plan to use in your quiz(zes).
- Once done, you can follow the instructions on building your quiz shell and adding questions into your quiz.
NOTE: If you are converting questions from one question type to the next, you must create that question from scratch within the proper category using the question type you desire. Once you’ve created the new question, remember to delete the old version out of the testbank category by selecting “Edit” for that question. Click the “Delete” option.
