Videos are an important visual component of an online or hybrid course. An important thing to remember about video files is they must be linked to or stored on mozart. Never upload an entire video into your course.
Below are the acceptable ways to use videos in your course:
1. Embedded videos from YouTube or other video sites
Step 1
Go to Youtube and locate a video you want to use in your course. Click the share icon and then choose embed. Copy the code.
Step 2
Go to your Moodle course. You can embed the video in a
- announcement post
- forum heading description
- label
- a page
- any assignment type
To embed the video, edit the resource or activity that will hold the video. Go to the editor and click the <> icon. Paste the code were you want the video to appear and click the <> icon again. You will see the video in the editor.
2. Link to videos that go to external sites
Instead of embedding the video in your course, you can link to the video directly. This is a good option for videos that are not found on video sites such as YouTube. For example, here is a link to a video from Khan Academy that teaches students about the history of France https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/world-history/1600s-1800s#many-french-revolutions.
To make this link in Moodle, follow the steps below.
Step 1
Locate the video. On the page where the student is able to play the video, copy the URL in the address bar
Step 2
Toggle the Edit Mode button in your course. Scroll to the module where you want the link to reside. Click the “Add and activity or resource” link at the bottom of the module. In the pop up window, select “URL”.
Step 3
Add the name (what students see before they click the link in the course) and the external URL which you copied in Step 1.
The link will display as a resource in your course module.
