Mozart stores documents, video files, audio files, images and more. Images can be inserted into a label, quiz, forum, assignment or page. Videos can be placed inside a page, label, assignment, forum or linked directly to using a URL. PDF documents can also be linked using a URL. The process for inserting an image, document or multimedia into any resource or activity in Open LMS is outlined in the steps below.
Start by selecting the Resource or Activity where you would like the image to appear.
NOTE: These steps assume you have already uploaded the file to mozart. To do that, you will need a WinSCP FTP account to upload your files and store them on mozart. If you do not have a mozart account, send a request to Scott Robinson (robinsons@sandhills.edu). He will also provide training on how to use the software.
Step 1
Open WinSCP on your desktop.
Step 2
Locate the uploaded image that you want to use on the right-side pane (server listing) in WinSCP. Look at the path at the top of the pane (in the image below it is /wwwroot/mcleodja/dme_130/). This is the location of the image on mozart. To embed the image, you will need to generate a URL that points to this location.
Step 3
To create a URL to any file stored on mozart, first begin the URL with https://mozart.sandhills.edu/.
- Add your username and a / to the URL path. Your username is the same as for your email and computer login. For this image, the username is mcleodja.
- Add any sub-folders that the file resides in to the path. In this example, that means dme_130/ needs to be included.
- Finally, add the exact name of the file and its extension to the end of the URL.
The end result will look like the following: https://mozart.sandhills.edu/mcleodja/dme_130/adobe_flash.jpg Click the link and see that it takes you to the image.
NOTE: Once you understand the process, there is a bit of a shortcut using WinSCP:
- Right-click the file in the right-side pane in WinSCP and select File Names.
- Then scroll to Copy to Clipboard if the file is not in a sub-directory in mozart.
- Or scroll to Copy to Clipboard (Include Paths) if the file is in a sub-directory.
- In Open LMS, paste what you just copied above from WinSCP
- At this point you will have to clean up and add to the URL (deleting any quotes or wwwroot and adding https://mozart.sandhills.edu) but it may be quicker and more accurate than typing.
Follow these steps to create links to PDF documents, Power Point presentations, images and video and audio files stored on mozart. More complete directions for using WinSCP and mozart are also available as a stand-alone printable document here.
